The Fernando de Noronha Island celebrates its 516-year anniversary this August. The 21-island paradise, located about 550 km off the coast of Recife, is also known as the birthplace of sugarcane in Brazil. It was on this island that, in 1504, the first sugarcane plantation was registered in Brazil. Historical documents show that the first sugar mill was built soon thereafter, in 1516, at the Feitoria de Itamaracá, created by King D. Manuel on the Pernambuco coast and entrusted to the colonial administration technician Pero Capico. It was the beginning of “cachaça” production in Brazil. Today, the Fernando de Noronha Island is a protected natural paradise that is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Brazil and the world. https://lnkd.in/dK_HHVA
